In the first one, there’s a little more to it, but this story seemed kind of thrown together. This sequel to Dinotopia: The caverns are referred to as the World Beneath, and many dinosaurs go there to die. Aside from a highly diverse ecosystem ranging from deserts to mountains to swamps, Dinotopia also has an extensive system of natural and man-made caves. Professor Denison and Will have been living on Dinotopia for several years, learning the marvels of this lost island dinotooia where dinosaurs and humans have coexisted peacefully for centuries, cut off from the rest of the world.
After returning from his first expedition in A Land Apart From TimeArthur presents two items he discovered — a sunstone and half of a key — to the council at Waterfall City in an attempt to get a second expedition into the World Beneath.

It also added a feeling of authenticity to a story where the world-building, and your faith in it, was so important to its success. Meanwhile, superfluous details in geography, beneat topographic maps and explicit name-dropping of every last irrelevant street name don’t fit the mysterious flair that Guerney previously constructed for Dinotopia.

How did a man with a degree in anthropology and such attention to detail the first time around mess this up so badly? This release has been discontinued and is out of print. Dinotopia 1 – 10 worlf 16 books. Actually, the story here is quite good, but it was so fast based that any potential moment of tension was glossed over, and told in a very matter of fact way. As a side note, and this is not exactly the fault of the author though partly, probablyI read this after having watched the pretty terrible miniseries, and only then realized that the movie apparently was adapted from both books, so there were some similar beneah, and it was pretty difficult to separate the story going on from the awful visuals and filmmaking featured on the DVD.

I wish James Gurney would have stuck to the way he started to write but thi First read of “Breath deep, seek peace” ‘The World Beneath’ is an amazing sequel to the first Dinotopia book ‘A Land Apart from Time’ with even better illustrations of the beautiful world and its inhabitants.
Great book, quality print. But the pictures look like they are from the s when photography first started being a thing, and there are gas lamps in the same photo. Once in awhile, I like to review classic books of the 90s, the stuff that first got me into reading. The characters walk by a stream and you hear the stream babbling by. Now it’s just like a regular book without the personal view that made the first one so special. It’s not written in Arthur Denison’s journal perspective anymore.
Unfortunately the writing and story lets it down-maybe that’s beside the point but I wanted to like it more than I did. The Lynd Ward Illustrated Edition.
